As a fully Accredited Licensed Early Childhood Educator the purpose of this senior generalist position is to coordinate, plan and administer the preschool programs.  The incumbent ensures the well-being of families and children by managing and implementing programs conducive to early childhood education and development.  The position is a Support Worker, and provides hands-on support in a child care setting.  The Ayas Lam programs are designed to meet the varying needs of children and parents in the community.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
• Receives children, 30 months to 6 years, on a drop in basis, while parents are attending the centre.
• Plans and carries out developmentally appropriate activities for children.
• Reviews assessments on children.
• Provides reports on children’s progress.
• Ensures a healthy and safe environment at the program.
• Maintains open and positive communication with parents.
• Builds relationships, promotes program awareness and represents department.
• Provides hands-on support in a child care setting to ensure effective inclusion of children with developmental delays.
• Adheres to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices and procedures.
• Participates as a member of Family Centres and Squamish Valley Operations Teams.

Education, Level of Experience & Hiring Requirements:
• Early Childhood Educator Certificate with a Post Basic Special Needs Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution. Certificate to Practice.
• Minimum 3 years of directly-related experience in majority of specialities listed in the job description, including experience in child care role or as an early childhood educator.
• As career progresses, incumbent will be required to successfully complete job-required, short-term upgrading, training and courses relating to classroom management, Squamish language, first nation’s child development, curriculum development, language immersion, etc.
• Experience as a beginner level user of Internet and all Microsoft Office applications, etc.
• Previous experience working in a First Nations community (particularly Squamish) is preferred.
• Must have a valid Industry First Aid & CPR Certificate or be willing to obtain within a set timeframe.
• Must have a valid Food Safe Certificate or be willing to obtain within a set timeframe.
• Must provide a copy of immunization record.
• Must provide a doctor’s letter/medical certificate stating sound physical and psychological health.
• Must have a valid BC Driver’s Licence Class 5.
• Must have a valid BC Driver’s Licence Class 4 (restricted) or be willing to obtain within a set timeframe.
• Must have a reliable vehicle and current auto insurance.
• Must successfully complete Criminal Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search as per Squamish Nation Policy.
