Location
Dante School is situated on Lachenaie Street in the southeast sector of St. Leonard. The school is located in the quadrant bordered by Langelier and Lacordaire boulevards in the East and West and by Jean Talon and Belanger Streets on the North and South respectively. It is easily accessible by the #141 bus.
Philosophy
Dante School encourages success for each student through a supportive partnership among our school staff, parents, and community. Dante School fosters self-esteem, respect for others and a sense of responsibility in addition to academic success.
Distinctive Programs
Dante School has as a present population 402 students. The students have English on one day and French on the other. The school offers a comprehensive Bilingual Program as well as a math program which offers math daily. It also provides services, through our Resource teachers, to students who need extra help in English as well as in French. In addition to the regular staff, Dante School has specialists in Physical Education, Music, Art Plastiques, and Italian. Courses in Art, Drama and Music Appreciation are offered at the Kindergarten level. Dante offers an integrated Italian program to all the students. Students and teachers also have the use of a fully equipped computer lab, two roving computer lab with 15 laptops in each, as well as computers in each classroom. Six Smartboards have been installed to help teachers with their daily lessons. Dante is an accredited Brundtland School. It is a place where people take concrete and ongoing actions to help build an environmentally friendly, peaceful, united and democratic world. Environmentally friendly School- Composting and promoting Waste Free Lunches. The service of our behaviour technician and child-care workers are available to service
the students who experience difficulty. Social skills and stories are worked with the students to give them the tools needed to deal with these issues.
Extracurricular Events and Activities
All teachers offer lunchtime recuperation periods. Over 150 students benefit from after-school tutorials. In addition to an interscholastic sports program, students also participate in the cross-country runs, the Halo Road Race, Science and Book Fairs, and three field trips per level. The graduating students take part in a weeklong ski trip. The children contribute creatively to the school’s digital Anthology of Creative Writing, as well as an Anthology published by the EMSB. Using the Internet, they take part in an international project that enables them to interact with their peers in other countries. After
school there is an Art club and a Music club as well as extra-curricular sports such as soccer, karate, power hour, robotics, chess and cosom hockey and scrapbooking.
Parental Participation
Parents are actively involved in the school by membership on the Governing Board and the Parent Participation Organization. As well, over 40 parent volunteers help in the school by lending a hand in the library, field trips, and special school events.
