As a fully Accredited Early Childhood Educator this intermediate position may work in all areas of daycare.  May assume a senior position in the Daycare – handling special needs children, assisting with crisis such as infant sickness, accidents, etc.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
• Cares for special needs children.
• Cares for infants/toddlers.
• Delivers group childcare and school age care.
• Keeps attendance and monitors children.
• Teaches life skills.
• Helps coordinate and chaperones field trips and parties.
• Works cooperatively with Team Leader.
• Assists special needs children.
• Performs general housekeeping duties for the daycare.
• Adheres to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices and procedures.
• Participates as a member of Squamish Valley Education and Squamish Valley Operations Teams.

Education, Level of Experience & Hiring Requirements:
• Early Childhood Educator Diploma (Infant Toddler and Special Needs) from a recognized post-secondary institution. Certificate to Practice OR Early Childhood Educator Certificate and Infant Toddler Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution.  Certificate to Practice.
• Minimum 1 year of directly-related experience in the majority of specialties listed in job description including assisting with delivery of classes, care and supervision of children, behavioural guidance, records maintenance, etc.
• As career progresses, incumbent will be required to successfully complete  job-required, short-term upgrading, training and courses relating to early childhood education, classroom management, Squamish language, first nation’s child development, curriculum development, language immersion etc.
• HighScope experience and/or knowledge is required.
• Experience as a beginner level user of Internet and all Microsoft Office applications, etc.
• Previous experience working in a First Nations community (particularly Squamish) is preferred.
• Must have a valid Industry First Aid & CPR Certificate or be willing to obtain within a set timeframe.
• Must have a valid Food Safe Certificate or be willing to obtain within a set timeframe.
• Must provide a copy of immunization record.
• Must provide a doctor’s letter/medical certificate stating sound physical and psychological health.
• Valid BC Driver’s Licence Class 4 or 5 is preferred.
• Reliable vehicle and current auto insurance is preferred.
• May be required to obtain a BC Driver’s Licence Class 4 (unrestricted) if does not possess.
• Must successfully complete Criminal Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search as per Squamish Nation Policy.
