IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma

IB 디플로마 프로그램을 통해 3가지로 구분된 핵심파트와 함께 6개의 분야에서 공부하게 됩니다.
학생들은 6개의 그룹에서 각 1과목씩을 선정, 6개의 과목을 공부하게 되는데, 일반적으로 3과목은 높은 수준 (Higher Level: 240시간)을, 나머지 과목은 보통 수준 (Standard Level: 150시간)을 선택하여 공부합니다. 
세 가지 핵심 파트 – EE(Extended essay), TOK(Theory of Knowledge), CAS(Creativity, Activity, Service) – 는 IB 디플로마 프로그램의 핵심 교육 철학이라 할 수 있으며 학생들이 꼭 이수해야 할 필수 과정입니다.

이 프로그램은 학생들의 다른 나라 대학으로의 진학을 좀 더 쉽게 하고 국제적인 이해력을 증진시키기 위해 국제적인 협약에 의해 만들어진 수업 과정입니다. 현재 IB 프로그램은 세계 147개국에서 실시하고 있습니다. 높은 수준의 교육 기준을 가지고 있기 때문에, 이 과정을 마친 학생들은 이미 대학에서 요구되는 폭넓은 세계관과 학습능력을 가진 자로 인정을 받을 뿐만 아니라 문제 해결 능력, 리더십 등 전인격적인 부분에서 이미 검증된 학생으로 인정받습니다. 이러한 이유로 학생이 취득한 IB 학위는 세계 주요 대학에 입학 신청 시, 유리하게 작용됩니다. IB 수료 중, 학생에게 우선 순위를 주거나 입학을 받아주는 학교는 미국의 Yale University, ULCA, Princeton University, New York University, 영국의 Oxford University 등의 세계 유수의 학교입니다. 이와 같이 세계적인 대학에서 IB 디플로마에 대해 높이 평가하고 있습니다. IB Diploma Programme curriculum

학생들은 2년동안 이 6가지로 나뉘어진 그룹에서 각 1과목씩을 선택 하여야 합니다. 단, 그룹 6과정을 원치 않는 학생들은 그룹 1~4 과정 중 한 과목을 추가로 선택하거나 그룹 5의 Futher mathematics studies 중 하나를 택일해도 됩니다.

각 과목은 높은수준(HL: 240 시간 이수- 한주에 6 periods)과 보통수준(SL:150 시간 이수 - 한주에 4 periods) 으로 나뉘어져 있고 , 학생틀은 각자의 실력과 관심분야에 따라 레벨이 다른 과목을 선택할 수 있는데, 일반적으로 각 레벨에서 3과목씩 선택하여 공부하게 됩니다.

IB Diploma 필수 6개 분야

Group 1 (제 1 언어.language A1)

모국어에 대한 문화적 유대 강화 및 Oral (구술) 및 Written (서식) 언어 능력 개발을 교과 목표로 수업을 진행합니다.

Group 2 (제 2 언어: Second language}

제 2 언어는 학생의 제 2 언어 활용 수준에 따라 상급, 중급, 하급 과정들을 선택할 수 있는데, IB 과정을 시행하고 있는 각 학교별로 제공 프로그램에 차이가 납니다.

Group 3 (사회 계열; Individuals and societies)

이 그룹에는 경영, 경제, 지리, 역사, 정보 기술, 철학, 심리학, 사회학, 문화 인류학 등이 포함됩니다.

Group 4 (과학 계열; Experimental sciences)

여기에는 생물, 화학, 물리, 환경, 기술 등의 과목에 실험실 실습 및 공동 연구 과정이 포함됩니다.또한 학생들에게 도덕 및 인류적 문제 인식 지역 사회 및 세계적 문제에 대한 학습을 통해 사회적 책임감을 인식하도록 교육 받습니다.

Group 5 (수학 및 전산; Mathematics and computer Science)

수학 그룹에는 학생의 능력 및 관심에 따라 Mathematics (HL), Further mathematics (SL), Mathematical methods, Mathematical studies 등의 4 가지 다른 과정들이 포함됩니다.

Group 6 (예술; The Arts)

예술에는 미술, 음악, 공연 예술 등의 과정들이 있으며 이를 통해 학생들은 장조적 예술 작업들을 탐구하게 됩니다.

Extended essay (EE)

심화 에세이 과정이라 할 수 있으며 이 과정을 통해 학생 개개인의 관심사를 하나의 토픽으로 선택하여 심화 연구할 수있는 기회가 제공되며  대학 수준에 맞는 리서치 기술과함께 논술 기술을 익힐수 있다. 총 40 시간을 이수하게 되며 자신의 관심분야와 연구를 바탕으로 그 한 토픽에 관한 4000 단어 정도의 작문과제가 요구됩니다.

Theory of knowledge (TOK)

Theory of knowledge (TOK, 지식 이론; 철학/논리에 준하는 필수 교양과목)는 IB 디플로마 프로그램의 핵심 교육 철학으로 이 과정은 지식 습득에 관한 방법론이라 볼 수 있으며, 학생들이 자신들이 배우고 있는 지식의 배경과 문화의 차이를 이해하는 데 목적을 두고 있습니다. TOK는 디플로마 과정에 있어 대표적인 과목으로서, “지식이란 무엇이며 어떻게 형성되는가? 지식의 가치와 한계는 무엇인가? 지식을 습득한다는 것은 무엇을 의미하는가? 누가 지식을 보유하고 있으며, 이는 무엇을 의미하는가?” 와 같은 지식 자체에 대한 비판적 사고를 배양하고자 합니다. TOK 를 이수하기 위하여 학생들은 2 년에 걸쳐 주당 2 시간 (총 80 분)의 수업을 받으며, 테스트, 프레젠테이션, 에세이 등을 제출하여야 한다- 또한 학생들은 매년 바뀌는 주제 리스트에서 주제를 선정하고 비판적 사고에 입각하여 최종 에세이(1200-1600 단어)률 작성하여야 하며, 이는  외부  전문기관에서 채점(40 점)을 한다. 한편 프리젠테이션은 학생이 주제를 직접 선정하고 학교 내부에서 2 명의 감독관이 채점(20 점)을 합니다. TOK 과목의 최종학점은 A E 학점으로 나누어지며 , 최소 이수기준은 E 학점입니다. 또한 이 성적은 Extended Essay (EE , 심화 에세이 과정) 학점을 종합하여 평가됩니다.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

IB  디플로마의 가장 근본이  되는 과정이라  할 수 있는 CAS는  학생들의  예술적 활동(creativity),  운동 및 지역적 또는 국제적 의미의 탐험(activity) 울 위해 다양한 프로그램을 학교에서 제공하고 있으며 커뮤니티 또는 사회봉사(Service)를 위해 학생들의 참여도를 높이고 있습니다. 이 과정은 외부 활동 과정으로 학생들이 학문 이외의 삶이나 활동의 중요성을 알게 하는데 목적을 두고 있습니다. 학생들은 자신의 에너지와 재능을 발휘할 수 있는 최소 150 시간 (주당 3 시간을 이수) 의 학문과 관련이 없는 외부 사회 활동을 통해 공부로 인한 심리적 압박감에서 벗어나 균형 있는 생활을 유지하고 또한 다른 사람과의 협동 인식 관계 능력들을 개발하게 됩니다.

IB Diploma 시험

• IB 디플로마 시험은 매년 5 월 (7 월 5 일 결과)과 11 월 (1 월 5 일 결과)에 있으며, 2 년 과정 중 마지막 학년 때에 치르게 됩니다.
• 학생들은 각 과목별 최저 1 점에서 시작하여 최고 7 점의 점수를 얻을 수 있고, 또한 TOK  (1,200자 에세이&10 분 프레젠테이션) 과 Extended Essay (4,000 자) 에서 최고 3 점까지 점수를 얻을 수 있어 IB디플로마에서 획득할 수 있는 최고 점수는 총 45 점이 된다. 그리고 보통 24 점이 IB 디플로마를 획득할 수 있는 최저 점수가 됩니다.
• 일반적으로 매 시험에서 80의 학생이 디플로마를 획득하고 있으며 1%보다 적은 학생이 45 점의 점수를 획득합니다.

국내대학교 IB과정 입학 요강 (KAIST, 서울대, 연세대)

KAIST

KAIST believes the IB Diploma is an excellent programme and is a good academic preparation for university studies. KAIST seeks IB students with academic ability, passion for research and development. Selection is based on academic performance of students. KAIST will require IB students to have studied Mathematics and Sciences throughout all levels of High School. KAIST accepts applications for the Korean Overseas Admissions and International Admissions from students who have been awarded the IB Diploma. All applicants are required to submit certified Transcript of Grades. KAIST will accept IB results through IBIS. The Korean Overseas Admission track commences in December of each year and applicants will receive a formal reply in approximately four (4) months. IB students that are taking the final examinations in the subsequent May examination session are required to submit the predicted grades in December and in July, applicants must submit the final grades. Applicants for the International Admissions track must be non-Korean who have graduated or will be graduating from High School before entering KAIST. Applications are required to demonstrate academic achievement, personal accomplishments and of potential to succeed throughout the application documents. Korean language proficiency is not required for admission. English proficiency is required as lectures will be in English. 서울대학교

The IB courses are factored into the evaluation for admissions in SNU admission programs International Admissions and General Early Admissions. A. International Admissions:International students (His or her parents as well as the applicant himself or herself are not citizens of Korea) and Korean students who have received his or her entire primary and secondary education outside of Korea may apply for International Admissions at Seoul National University. International admissions are focused on both on the candidate's previous academic achievement and potential. Moreover, other personal accomplishments are taken into consideration, which may be demonstrated in additional materials submitted along with application documents. International Admissions are offered twice in each academic year. Application for Spring intake is scheduled to run in July and August, while that for Fall intake is in January and February. International AdmissionsDoes not require any written examination other than the submission of required documents. However, depending on academic policy of each department (for example, College of Medicine), there may be an interview, if necessary. A strong score in IB Diploma or IB Diploma Course qualification will be considered favorably for admissions decision. A good command of Korean or English is recommended for the undergraduate study at SNU. lsquoConditional Offer' can be granted to those applicants who have submitted lsquoIB Predicted Grade' prior to the release of their actual IB grade. SNU will inform the required lsquoFinal Grade' that must be met by an applicant. This policy is applicable in each Fall semester as of the academic year of 2014.Those who are holding lsquoConditional Offer' must submit the Final IB Grade by the designated date as indicated in the Admissions Guide. Contingent upon the lsquoFinal IB Grade' which fulfills a satisfactory completion of the required final grade, SNU will announce the Final Decision on lsquoConditional Offer' around the middle of July. B. General Early Admissions:SNU offers lsquoGeneral Early Admission', which is in line with Early Admission for Korean domestic students. The number of students admitted under General Early Admission takes more than 50% of the SNU admission quota in total as of 2014. General Early Admission is offered once an academic year, which is for Spring semester intake. A strong score in IB Diploma or IB Diploma Course qualification will be considered favorably for admissions decision. 연세대학교

Yonsei University welcome applications from IB Diploma holders to apply for its undergraduate programmes. IB Diploma holders are also eligible to apply for the Global Leadership Division Program (GLDP) that has been established to create a new international education paradigm. The GLDP attracts outstanding international students and overseas Korean students by providing a specialized and prestigious education program with a strong basis in the Korean language and culture. Please find below for the university's general admission requirement for Korean IB Diploma students abroad and International IB Diploma students from overseas: A. Korean Students Temporarily Living Abroad Korean IB Diploma students who have studied abroad for at least three years in middle school and high school (including one year or more in high school) with their parents and have completed or will complete high school curriculum abroad are encouraged to apply for early admission to Yonsei in July without having to take the written test. Their IB Diploma results will form part of the document review process. Korean students currently studying abroad and in a Diploma school are advised to complete their studies overseas normally and apply to early decision as IB Diploma graduates. B. International Students Applying from Overseas (this includes Korean nationals who have completed or will complete their elementary and secondary courses for 12 years or more outside of Korea) The IB Diploma is accepted for application to Yonsei University. The finalists must take a Korean Proficiency Test. If the score is below the 5th level, the amount of credit that they can take should be limited and they must attend Korean language courses.
